I'm not too sure about that. Netflix produced 700 original shows in 2018, including many foreign shows, and has 139M world wide subscribers

Maybe 5 of Netflix’s shows are wide hits is my guess.

*shrug* Netflix doesn't release viewer statistics so there is zero chance of determining what is a wide hit -- (edited)

base it on products on the shelves or discussion at water coolers. Stranger Things is obviously huge just because of all the merchandise out there

The term "Netflix and chill" exists for a reason. Netflix is there, with adult content, no teens/millennials/Gen Xers are switching without kids. -- nm

7 bucks a month for a service comprising of many major movies is always a threat to more expensive platforms.

Eh - I'm sure Disney will get plenty of subscribers, but I can't imagine this will put much of a dent in Netflix's current count. nm

I think Netflix is approaching a point where the talk does, “I can pay 7bucks and get all that or 15-20 and get a lot more that I’m not interested in.

THIS I can see. But I don't see this hurting Netflix much at all. Especially since they're continually releasing their own content. -- nm

It's because there wasn't a viable alternative. I get that you don't have kids and dislike most Marvels movies, but...

Second sentence of your IM is what got me. Maybe I'm dead wrong, but unless you have kids, the appeal for adults seems very limited. -- nm

But what about people who have all the Marvel and Star Wars shit on DVD/Vudu. I have no desire to pay for Star Wars and Marvel again. nm

um, but it's 60 bucks *per year* where as the 50 is a onetime charge - Also that's 60 bucks a year to rent those movies -- nm
