what do you do with the check afterwards? Keep it? Shred it after a certain time frame?

I still can't do it. Wife still walks the checks into the office and speaks with a teller if the amount is large. -- nm

I keep it for a day or so, just to make sure the deposit was processed correctly - then toss it -- nm

I noticed on many new checks there is now a small checkbox under the signature line for you to mark that you deposited it

I use a scanner at my business and part of the instructions/agreement is that we shred deposited checks.

I slap a post-it on it indicating when I deposited, then keep it in "the pile". You know... "the pile".
