I can not fathom living in a house without central heat and air.

Yeah, but my house was built in 1905, and it almost never drops below about 10C outside.

I get the why of it, but still sounds like a nightmare. If I am cold, I want to switch the thermostat to "Heat" and be done with it.

in theory I have central heat. in practice it's forced hot air and I like my skin *and* my upstairs is converted loft space (so electric heat)
