The EC is supposed to be a defense against something like Trump. By doing nothing, it proved its own obsolescence.

It is to blame for the migrants being locked in cages and abused/tortured/murdered for profit.
It is to blame for terrible trade relations and creeping economic fallout over the last three years.
It is to blame for the raw grift and incompetence that is permeating the administration.
It is to blame for ignoring the will of the people.
And if it didn't exist, if someone like Trump managed to get elected without an EC at all, then *it will have been the People who did that*, and they would bear the blame.
