The shift stops a lot of hits but my point is that when he bunts against the shift he's not trying to hit a HR and the other teams are happy -- (edited)

to let him do that. If he gets a double they might not be so willing to let him do it but I can't say for sure, obviously.
I understand batters lose a lot of hits to the shift but going against it for a single is just fine with the other team. They'd much rather a big guy get a bunt single over swinging away and possibly hitting one over the fence.
