Natural aging simply *does not* explain going from an near all-star level to below replacement level.

Natural aging process deteriorates, so yes a player has to cheat to get to fastballs, but that'd mean they'd get to some fastballs. Ortiz isn't. He's basically hitting *worse* than a thrid string shortstop.
