No, you want to do they best you can to make the team competetive for as long as possible.

Reimold had done very little to show he had earned a spot. Going into the year, he was behind Montanez. And in the end they kept him down for a total of 31 games at AAA. And some of that was probably to help with the move from RF to LF.
Wieters spent all of 39 games in AAA. Given his start at AAA, those games seemed to be needed. Given his start at the plate in the majors, a few more games might have helped.
