I know I'm not around much lately (work is crazy; we'll be in the news soon) but can you please indulge me with some tech support?

I have the official router of ST. it sucks. it has terrible range and drops signal intermittently like it's trying to send me a message in morse code (athena??). this doesn't matter on my tv because it buffers but on my computer and phone it drives me insane. downloading a podcast before I walk out in the morning can take 4-5 minutes.

I assume I have a bum router. is there a new recommended model? or should I just get the same one and chalk this one up to manufacturer defect?

facts:
my router is in the attic, which gets hot and cold.
I can't move it because there is no other cable outlet in my house.
it's always been flaky, but worse over time.
could it be my weird house that causes the issues? as you may or may not recall, my dining room, spare bathroom and a piece of my kitchen are converted attached garage.
I have range extenders (below). I don't think they do much, but with suspicious/degraded router performance, how could I tell?

should I entertain mesh?

any input appreciated. working from home is a bear.
