I've been watching videos of them and they seem to be doing a good job.

But the fact that a random guy is directing traffic in Times Sq. and not the police is something that needs to be corrected. I know the police have a lot to do in these situations but there are a lot of them and there should be enough to deal with traffic control in the major intersections. They practice for these things yet their response seems lacking.
