If I were in the US, there would be loads of places to go without having to leave the country

same applies to Europe of course, I have a huge choice of different places around.
If I were on that budget, I'd try to visit somebody (STer?) in a totally different place, crash on that person's sofa.
Doesn't matter if that person is at work during the day, I'd still have lots of info and places to go. Plus resources, maybe borrow a car or go on some trips together.
