Speaking of legs in foreign lands, I have a good friend who got in a motorcycle accident in Croatia.

Crushed her knee. She had surgery over there, and when she got back to America and had it looked at, the doctors marveled. After seeing the post-accident x-rays, some of them reckoned that if she'd been treated at home, they probably would have amputated. That's how bad it was. But those Croatian docs with their recent battle-wound experience were able to put it back together.

She now works for a medical tourism company. :)
