So this interested me enough to go find the source material. Draconian, inefficient, elitist for flying in general is accurate. AA not specific

Personally I'm really torn on the elitist part as it kind of is and kind of isn't?
I get that's there definitely a class system in flying but at least there is a class system? By that I mean that once upon a time, flying wasn't even an option for the vast majority of folks and wasn't a standard method of transportation but something really special. Hence people got dressed up to fly.
Air travel became accessible to the masses and so for the lowest sell price to the customer, we get things like Ryan Air and treated like masses.
The author admits that perhaps research into the no-show policy could have been called for so there's that.
I may be the asshole here but there's really a part of me: what part of non-refundable do you not understand.
As well as purchasing not direct through the airline is one of those things that when it works: Fantastic but if it doesn't then there's multiple parties involved and the most likely scenario is nobody takes responsibility.
And really being an asshole: C'mon...you're traveling to a wedding, at least know the specific date and time before you book your tickets
