In rare cases, it could work in terms of believability. That at least means something's gained for someone enough to offset the negative impact of a man physically interacting with a woman.
For mainstream stuff, that rare case is Ronda Rousey as she's a legitimate badass who could likely tap out most men.
For a normal wrestler, who outweighs most of these women by 100lbs, nothing's really gained in a believable competition. You end up with the man looking like a bully, a weakling, or a simpleton.
