unfortunately, it's impossible to know that for sure; but choosing alternatives early on probably at least shortened his life.

his form of pancreatic cancer has pretty great odds vs. other forms for 5-year survival if it doesn't spread; but there's still ~15% of patients who don't make it that long, and stopping it from spreading (and/or treatment causing other issues) isn't always straightforward.
