I dunno about "important games" but basically the group stage of the tournament was a round robin format with every team playing every other team

I think Hotstar had broadcasting rights to everything, so all lost games hurt their bottom line.

Broadcasting rights in India and some other Asian markets (eg Sri Lanka, Bangladesh) as well as digital in the US and Canada.
