I found this article pretty fascinating. If anyone remembers an article I posted a week or so ago about "what if the left was right about race", this

article does a deeper dive into the issue based on research. It's worth the read, but it explores a study that asked people questions about child rearing essentially getting at whether the parents believed in the children being obedient or celebrating their differences and letting them explore and find their own way and then examines the extremes of those responses. Ultimate conclusion is that for many on the right it's not purely racism, but about sameness and fear of others (all of which certainly overlaps with racism, but is distinct). Most fascinating was that when these extreme "authoritarians" (as they're defined) were told that NASA found life on other planets that is very different than life as we know it, their feelings towards people of color on earth changed since the "sameness" now was expanded to be humans vs. aliens. It's a good, interesting but longish read.
