I have news that I would like kept solely within ST. And please (please) don't put anything out on Facebook.

After a decade (plus) of working for the Senator, I will be leaving the office in about a month.
This was an incredibly difficult decision to make and probably difficult career-related decision that I have ever had to make. But after mulling it over for a long, long time, I needed to pull the trigger.
I've chatted with most of my cow orkers, my family, and a few friends, but I'm still reaching out to others to chat with them.
Various trends over the past two or three years led me to fundamentally question whether I could continue in this job through this next election cycle. Not that I would be helping the Senator’s reelection campaign -- the Senator has always followed the law and maintained a strict separation between his Senate office and his political campaign organization. But any elected official will tell you that their office is always affected by the heightened scrutiny of being up for reelection. I don't know if I could put up with all the crap next year, and certainly not what I consider the worst case scenario.
I'm leaving now so the Senator can hire my successor and have his team solidly in place by the end of the year.
Constituent service work has been my calling, and I will continue my career in public service doing the same type of work in some way.
I'm going to take the rest of the year, maybe even into January or February, to figure out what I want to do next and set myself up for the last 15-20 years of work leading into semi-retirement.
In the meantime, though, I'll go back to practicing law. I'll be working with a community business law firm in Portland focused on providing legal help to everyone in the community. I’ll also be pursuing a few interests on my own, including intellectual property mediation, election law, and helping attorneys and other professionals with ethics questions and disciplinary inquiries.
I'm also going to start a podcast or two. Hell, if Havens can do it, so can I, right? :-) :-)

Aw man! This is both heart breaking and swelling. It was great having you in this position of authority but it's time to spread your wings.
