There's two reasons why this hurts so much. 1) She fought so hard for so long. 2) She was Kim and my first joint pet.

She was somewhere between 19 and 21 and had renal failure and stage four cancer. Despite that, she was really, really good until 10 days ago. And she was happy and comfortable most of that time. She just wouldn't eat anymore.
We're somehow still stunned because she had rallied so often that we'd come to expect miracles from her.
