When they were younger especially, I have plenty of photos of big family gatherings at holidays.

There was a tradition of writing home to the parents every week from the time they were in college through late adulthood, though that shifted to weekly phone calls later in life. In the last 10 years my grandfather lost the ability to recognize anyone so they weren't close recently (and lived on other sides of Ohio from each other). But my uncle setting up his memorial service thought he'd have half a dozen family members but has since received 45 replies that they want to come, many of them from the sister's side of the family.
