B for me. It was fine. It felt a bit like an extended episode, like a Christmas ep - not much like an actual film, but that's ok. It's wonderful to see all these characters again, but I felt like I knew what was going to happen the entire time. As expected, everything and everyone looks amazing except for Mary's wig which looks like anime at times and took me out every once in a while - especially when it looked like it was going to eat her face. I was also surprised that Michelle Dockery really didn't have that much to do. But that can't be helped I guess with so many characters to get around to.
It leaves off at a juncture where there could undoubtedly be another film and I'm totally here for that. I know Fellowes wants it enough - even if Maggie Smith is as done with it as she has repeatedly said. It eventually builds and extends towards a poignant, wistful, eye-dampening and lovely grace note. Even if it doesn't knock your socks off it is a must for Downton fans.
