It doesn't always save you money. My friend flew them to Houston. Weather delay on the return. All of the other airlines also grounded for that -- (edited)

night, but brought in other planes in the morning or facilitated transfer to another airline. Spirit did not. He was there 3 extra nights and they refused to pay for hotel/food etc., because it was weather related, even though the weather was fine after that night. He had someone to stay with and time, so it didn't affect him. If you really needed to be somewhere or couldn't afford a hotel, not the cheapest. If you have extra time and a place to stay, you're good.
