I was brainstorming about something and realized:
a quick internet search suggests that a 40something with a wide vocabulary actively uses about 40,000 words, and may know 80,000 in total. There's no way I would be able to write a list of all the words I know from memory and get close to those numbers, and that's more about recall than vocabulary size. Vocabulary might be the thing we know the most number of things in a set and yet can't actively recall what we know we know without assistance.

So I was trying to think of words I know but don't use in my vocabulary and the first one I came up with was axiomatic.
