My first thought was someone not mentioned (spoils I guess)

And that is Darlene Love. By far her most famous song is "Baby Please Come Home", something David Letterman had her sing on his show each Christmas. The B&W television in the montage would match with her ties to doo-wop era, and she spent a long time in the musical wildnerness before being "re-discovered" as it were. I'm not sure how baking ties into this.
