The 777 family is way too big for the vast majority of 737 family missions.

And any 'new' plane Boeing comes up with probably take years to certify let alone deliver (that's just that way it works)
* by 'new' I mean it may not be a 'clean sheet' build, it could be a derivative of an earlier model, but even that takes years
