In response to "Quebec just exists in a different realm in Canadian politics. I can't imagine this exchange even being considered anywhere else" by Reagen

This makes me sad for the Anglo community in Montreal.

All my life I've perceived the Anglo community as wanting to preserve their identity as defined by the language they speak. As it turns out, it's not about language. It's about being "old white guys". Montreal is among the most multicultural cities on the continent. A true melting pot. Even the Francophone community has walked away from their "lily-white" views (and with it, the movement for independent has flagged). But, leave it to an Anglo to openly express his narrowmindedness.
