something else going on here because this is happening all over the world. Not just here. Maybe to a degree they're following our lead, but I think to a degree we followed theirs with a leader who emulated the dictators and oligarchs he saw in other countries. I also think we're in the midst of a culture war and the side that's losing is flailing away looking at every way they can to preserve something they don't realize is already gone (and should be). The last gasps of a culture war get very ugly.
