I get that to a degree, but I think some have been trying to do that reckoning for a while. And frankly, they overreact at times.

Everyone needs to keep analyzing and figuring these things out, but one side is adamantly avoiding that while the other may be trying but flailing a bit. One of the core problems that nobody has figured out is the effect of social media on our culture. We don't talk to each other enough and retreat into our tribes. And we're inundated by people poisoning the pool with false information. The first amendment is a wonderful thing, but it's not equipped at this point to deal with the deluge of information, both real and fake and figure out how to sort through it. What it requires is people to be fully engaged, pretty much at all times, which is really hard and exhausting. I'm not sure where the answers are for these things, but it's fueling the culture war and the rotting of the country's soul.
