My sister has had an outstanding medical bill from the birth of her son some 5 years ago.

She made payments here and there, but it finally went to collections, and after a few years the creditor finally had enough (and I can't blame them) and filed a complaint against her. She filed and answer along with a Fee Waiver Request. Said waiver request was denied. She figured the court would bill her (stupid). Within ten seconds of reading the waiver denial I see where it says she has ten days to make appropriate payment or her answer will be of no effect. So she's waiting, I guess, and nothing happens, so she forgets about it. The lawyer for the collections company requests and is granted a default judgment and seizes assets needed to satisfy the judgment. Including $13k+ from my dad's money market account that simply had her name on it from when she was his caregiver.
