Well we had a weak scotus for decades and the rights that they were created to protect - of unpopular voting minorities - went u checked for a century

So yes, it ended as we know it or want it
It was a system of government for a select class of privileged people (white males then) such that the system was an oligarchy and not a democracy
It took a civil war and a century of uprisings to restore it
(Don’t confuse democracy with voting for leaders— I’m taljing about separation of powers checks and balances etc)
