It seems like the history of the clause is pretty persuasive that you couldn’t be basically working for a foreign govt, like employed by them

I know what you’re gonna say trump is a foreign agent etc etc but is he really working for their interests or for his?

I’m not saying it’s not covered under some modern logical reading just not sure this is what they had in mind

Seems ripe for ethical requirements legislation but if the president isn’t even required by law to turn over his tax returns, there’s not quite a tradition of written rules requiring fair dealing
