Janet, Bad Janet, and Derek have all been rebooted a LOT and they improve with each iteration.
Bad Janet made the demon exploder. I think she made it on purpose and she and Janet are working together to get things back to what The Good Place and The Bad Place were intended to be. Not sure if Derek has a place in their plan of if he's the spanner in the works
But the story started out with "can humans improve themselves", morphed into "can demons improve themselves", includes can Janet's improve themselves", and we've "yet to actually see a legit Good Place. So are Janets the actual Good Place architects/oversight?
