Although, IMHO, the problem isn't silicon valley itself. The problem is capitalism and the Corporate Entity having no feedback mechanism for ethical behaviour beyond that which can be instilled by the State, which is decreasingly effective and increasingly overwhelmed.
Silicon Valley pushes that to the limits, just like oil companies, just like the GOP is doing with the US government.
"No power in the 'verse can stop us", they say, because the structures that existed before them were predicated on physical limitations to scale, and psychological limitations of shame. Neither of which exist any more.
Contrasted with China, where the corporate entity IS the State. That's going to be fun when it comes to a head.
