They are getting rightly hammered for this and will hopefully see the error of their position. If not now, then later, when they grow out of it. It's campus politics, and it's its own animal. None of it means anything once you leave university.
2) is this more extreme than those student protests several years ago where that professor at Missouri ended up calling for assault? How about that Yale Halloween thing? Those were nuttier. You're letting recency ratchet your reaction up.
