about 10 or so years ago after a devastating storm in Jarrell, TX local govt made a big deal about installing sirens. maybe it's b/c the weather is so warm here most of the year that we all run our AC and it dulls the noise or b/c most storms move in/escalate so fast you really have little time to do more than run for cover.
