Kim and I don't have real people problems, so I try not to complain, but it's been aggravating couple of days. -- (edited)

Our apartment complex, in its infinite wisdom, introduced a new package delivery system. Apparently, leaving the items at our front door was too easy. So, they have this new installation by the front office.

The idea is to require a digital code to access the locker containing your package. The flaw is that the UPS people fucking hate it.

As a form of protest this week, they just started LEAVING PACKAGES OUT IN THE OPEN. This locker room isn't even behind the security gates here. Literally anyone could grab anyone else's package. And it's Christmas so there was a LOT of expensive stuff.

We got shipping notices that our items were ready. When we picked them up, they were for a different apartment. Ours were gone. UPS blames the apartment complex and vice versa. So, we're missing some stuff and are only sure what one of the lost/stolen things is. From now on, I'm just direct-shipping Christmas gifts to avoid this.

But that's just a minor aggravation.

The terrifying thing happened at lunch. Right before Kim came home, I was trying out an exercise with pulley ropes. Our kitten (who is now mostly grown) went nuts and started sprinting around. To her, it was a giant string.

Right around that time, Kim came home. This cat lives for Kim and always rushes to greet her. Kim wondered where Jettie was, but I said she was around. What neither of us realized is that she was so excited that she sprinted right past Kim when the front door opened and ran outside. It snowed here yesterday, which makes it the worst possible time for that.

Thankfully, after about ten minutes, we realized that she was gone and successfully found her outside. She had climbed some stairs near here and was sitting perfectly still on a step. She was in a total state of panic and shock, shivering all the while. I think it's the first dose of real fear she's ever experienced. I'm confident she would have come to Kim the instant that she called, but that was fucking terrifying.

She got tuna for dinner.

She also learned a valuable lesson about running outside, but I would have gladly spared her that pain.
