I disagree. Either way it's not going to change the outcome. So they're in a position now where they either look like they care about the facts or

not. Never mind that they don't. If they let him testify he gives his damaging testimony and they still acquit (they latch on to Dershowitz's stupid argument). Trump gets revealed (even more) for having lied and trying to extort another country. Republicans in the senate can at least argue that they gave a fair hearing.

If they don't let him testify, all the info eventually comes out and the trial is revealed (even more) for the sham it is. But now they are more complicit. It hurts them more if they block it and it comes out later. That's the calculus now. There are vulnerable senators that will be in a worse position than if they just let the damage occur (which will happen either way).
