The point, I think, of nominating someone like Bernie would be to acknowledge the reality that the voter pool is not a zero sum game.

Sure, we could keep squabbling over purportedly persuadable moderates while keeping established power centers intact, with the inherent trade offs in policy, or we could try to engage new voter groups outside of the political equation, that haven’t participated as readily in the past.
