It means that the attacks haven't even started yet. You know what a general election is like.

People answering polls today in the generic 'Bernie vs Trump' question probably have a vague idea of what Bernie stands for in most cases (a few probably know a lot about him, but many don't know much). The polling at this point is more a gauge of 'like or do not like Trump'
Once the general starts and the attacks on Bernie start, those numbers change.
