This is one of those rare instances where we don't line up on politics. I like the idea in theory.

Where I have a problem is when some of the perceived power players are saying that they'll do anything to stop the most popular candidate from being on the ticket. That's how people lose elections AND the moral high ground.
In your example, it'd be like a popular DJ talking trash about Def Leppard to get White Lion elected. More people like Def Leppard as demonstrated by record sales. The DJ doesn't get to override that...just like I don't get to make the Beatles or Star Wars go away just because I think they're wildly overrated.
