Meh. I’ve always find this a weird complaint. If you’re being asked it’s most likely by a tourist and then most likely to a place where the lines do g

O together such as Times Square or lower Manhattan or an express stop for the Met or Central Park

So I in fact use this all the time unless I’m asked for something where only a specific line goes then I’ll say the name

Why confuse them with A/C/E? That’s not intuitive what that means
