In response to "is the rule that if you're in line when polls close, you get to vote? I thought polls hard closed at whatever time. I think I was turned away once. -- nm" by amanda

Each state owns its election laws, but everything I read yesterday was "if you are in line you get to vote" -- (edited)

I can't imagine a state taking a different approach, and presume it would challenged if one did.

If polls close at 8:00 and I get in line at 7:30, it's not my fault that they aren't staffed well enough to get me through in 30 minutes.
