Obama's best candidates were second tier and he did an abysmal job of protecting the benches.

Between 2010, 2014, and 2016, they lost so much ground in state houses and competitive districts -- and many of the 2012 success stories (Indiana's Senator and NOrth Dakota's) lost in 2018 in a banner Democratic year.
It's why as much as Barack Obama was a good man, he wasn't that great a President. He didn't focus on the legacy that is part of the job. Dawson can detail the Courts failings; and he didn't defend down ticket well at all.
