In response to "STIS: HD TV shopping question.." by colin

You can get a 1080p for under $1000. I almost score a sweet Samsung 32" for $350 at Costco (sold out!)

Anyway, to your point...

What you're describing suggests you'll be pretty close to the TV. 720p should be fine. Besides, unless you're watching pure, unadulterated RAW HD (that is, watching a Blu-ray on your PS3 and sitting with your nose to the screen), 1080p probably won't make a difference. Feeding through a KVM is going to probably diminish the signal anyway. But, wait... a KVM with a HDMI connection? If you're not doing HDMI (or DVI), chances are you won't be seeing true HD anyway, so why get a HDTV anyway?

On the other hand... in 5 years when everyone has 1080p TVs, how will you feel about your 720p TV? Are you the kind of guy who cares about that?
