it's VGA.. the problem with not using HDMI is security...

it's messy, but basically the HDMI cable has a communication channel that lets the player (computer, cable tuner, bluray player) talk to the display to make sure it isn't a recorder. if a device can't verify, or you're outputting via analog means (vga, component cables) several things can happen with controled media:
- you could get no picture at all
- you could get an SD version of your HD signal
- nothing, plays HD anyway
a lot of people are running at 480p because they're connecting via analog means to their HD display and don't know that the device is downscaling to prevent HD content from being recorded.
messed up.
if i could get just a big computer monitor, that would be the way to go.. i don't do enough video editing to really care if there's a bit of pixelation, etc..
