There are a few hundred people at Mar-A-Lago. There's a few hundred million at risk overall.

he's failed the few hundred million; putting him on the spot to fund the few hundred in their time of need is giving him an easy out. Either via the good PR of paying for these people, or giving him an attack vector for how his property is being singled out for attack.

Could it work? Sure, but it's low on the list of things that are truly wrong in his fucked up response.
