I'd be interested to see if that's an actual Marriott owned hotel or a franchise. Having some second hand experience with that...

a franchise - the owner will do what the fuck they want and the only thing Marriott (or whatever hotel company) can do is to take away their flag.

While I have no experience with Marriott as a corporation - $114k doesn't seem like an amount they'd have this look for.

I'd wager this is a franchise. I'd also wager, it won't be a Marriott branded property for long. OR - under the threat of losing their flag, this hotel backs off.

For being billionaires in some cases - these owners and ownership groups can be phenomenally stupid.
