I get that A is feeling left out and alone but he has to know that this is the person D is. I get the idea that D is led by his mom but yet he still invited A to be with him in Hawaii. If he didn't have interest or care for him then why would he ask him to join him there.

I don't know really. I just think things didn't need to get to the breakup point over this.
