So fyi, it's not magic. There are methods. Usually involving a projector (which a lot of artists think is "cheating"). It just takes fuckloads of patience. -- nm*

The video is too dim to see for sure, but there's some kind of guidemarks on the paper. That would be with a projector. It's not true freehand. -- nm

It is, and that's irksome to artists who spent years training in freehand. Someone traces a photo and the crowd goes wild. I'm totally not immune.

I think there's definitely room for both. An artist uses what tools they will to execute their vision.

It's still a talent. Kind of like original bands vs. cover bands. It still takes a tonne of talent and work to be able to play other people's songs.
