basil goes in most tomato-based sauces, SE Asian stir frys, hamburger patties, some stews and soups

thyme and rosemary is a great potato addition (never basil with rosemary though), lemon juice + thyme on chicken or pork. Just did thyme + rosemary + bay leaves on a prime rib roast. Bay leaves also good for anything you're going to simmer all day, it's oregano-like. Mustard powder good for hamburger patties and chili and is a major part of most of my BBQ rubs.
