Every morning for a week. I got a phone call from Fort McNair, National Defense University. They were having a meeting.

Colonels, medical officers, met in a room to discuss me. And then they called me, every fucking day. I was lying on my back on the carpet in front of the TV, coughing my brains out, while they asked me how I was doing, and they discussed me. It's hard to describe how weird that feels. They told me to worry about nothing, I was dumb enough to believe them. A few months later they fired me for underperforming. In reality, the contract was poorly managed by an old white guy. So they fired me.I sued and won. Then I took a major hit in salary and never recovered.
And that's the true story of how much it sucks to be the first one diagnosed.
